2015 Kawasaki Mule PRO-FXT First Look 0
There’s a new top-dog in the line of Kawasaki Mule side-by-sides for 2015, the Kawasaki Mule PR0-FXT. The FXT is powered by a three cylinder, 812cc engine – the largest mill yet used in a Mule. The four-door workhorse features digital fuel injection and a CVT transmission that has high, low and reverse functions. Dash mounted switches allow the driver to electronically switch between 2WD and 4WD and a dual-mode rear differential can be locked for maximum pull and traction.
The fuel tank carries 7.9 gallons and the DFI system has been calibrated to compensate for altitude and temperature changes, helping to maximize fuel efficiency.
The independent front and rear suspension travels thorough 8.7 inches in the front and back, soaking up bumps through twin-tube, preload-adjustable shocks on each corner. Braking is handled by 212mm rotors pinched by two piston calipers (front) and single piston calipers (rear) on all four wheels. Ground clearance measures 10.2 inches and a Roll Over Protective Structure ensures that all inside the cab remain protected in the event of a tip-over.
Kawasaki worked to make the FXT as versatile as possible, so designed a “Trans Cab Mechanism” which allows the vehicle to be transformed from a three-passenger ride to a six-passenger ride in a matter of minutes. When traveling with six passengers, the FXT is rated to carry an additional 350 pounds but with three in the cab the capacity jumps to 1000 pounds.
Other work-friendly amenities include a 2-inch receiver hitch capable of towing up to 2000 pounds (when equipped with optional draw bar), storage space located under the front seat and a steel cargo bed with multiple tie-down points. There are also a number of 12-volt outlets located throughout the machine to power and charge a variety of electronic gadgets.
There is one non-Electronic Power Steering version of the 2015 Mule PRO-FXT available and three that include the EPS. The non-EPS model has two DC outlets in the cab, 12-inch stainless steel wheels and is available in a Super Black colorway. The EPS model includes just the power steering and tilt wheel upgrade and is available in Super Black or Timberline Green.
Higher up the ladder is the Mule PRO-FXT EPS LE, which adds LED headlights, aluminum wheels, composite sun top and two additional DC outlets for the rear passengers. The LE model comes in Timberline Green or Dark Royal Red.
At the top of the heap is the Realtree Xtra Green Camo version of the Mule PRO-FXT, which comes with all the amenities of the LE model but features a striking camo colorway.
Each of the four new Mule PRO-FXT side-by-sides comes with Kawasaki’s three-year STRONG warranty. MSRP has not yet been announced.
