2014 WORCS Round 4 Sand Hollow SXS Results 0

Round 4 of the WORCS Series was held in what could be the most visually stunning locations for a race in the United States, if not the world: Sand Hollow State Park in the off-road friendly state of Utah. Beau Baron put his Polaris RZR XP1000 on the top of the Pro SXS Podium for the second time of the year, besting a field of 28 Pro UTVs.

The 5.3-mile course at Sand Hollow may have looked beautiful, but it was the roughest of the year by a long shot. Many machines barely made it through the practice session and a handful did not. Sharp sandstone ledges and crumbled rocks mixed into the soft sand surface reeked havoc on tires, wheels and suspension components. As the laps wound down the hills and valleys were littered with broken UTVS.

On the uphill sand dune start, Baron Pulled the holeshot with Mitch Guthrie Jr., Dean Price, Ryan Piplic and RJ Anderson right behind.  Guthrie would settle into second as Price blew a belt battling with Anderson. On the last lap, lappers slowed Baron allowing Guthrie to pass until the he fell victim to a slower racer blocking his path. Baron would regain the lead and take the win.

Nick Thompson charged from the back in his XP1000 to grab third based on time, less than seven seconds ahead of Polaris’ Anderson. Ryan Piplic would round out the top five, crossing the finish line with shredded tires.

Jeff Obering grabbed sixth ahead of Wagon Burners Racing’s Tyler Winbury, who limped in with broken rear axles. 4WheelDirt Contributor Nick Nelson picked off numerous racers from his third-row start for eighth. IMG Motorsports-sponsored Mike Camp got the ninth spot and Blingstar owner Clint Roberts capped off the top-10.

4Wheel Dirt Editor, Justin Dawes put his IMG Motorsports prepped Project XP1000 inside the top ten for most of the race, before belt troubles knocked him back to 11th. Stay tuned for the next installment of the project XP1000.

Four weeks from now the WORCS series will move to Ridgecrest, California for Round 5 on May 9-11.

The uphill sand start at the fourth round of the WORCS Series favored those with proper tire pressure and power output.
