2014 Viking Tactical Black First Look 0
We reviewed the new 2014 Yamaha Viking last summer, a three-seat UTV that takes the place of the outgoing Rhino as Yamaha’s single offering in the segment. At the time of the announcement two models were set to hit showroom floors, a standard edition and EPS-equipped version but Yamaha recently added a third option to the mix – the Tactical Black Viking EPS.
The Viking is designed to be a workhorse for the ranchers and hunters that make up a large portion of the UTV consumer base. As such, the Viking touts features such as a dump-bed with 600-pound carrying capacity, which is large enough to fit a full pallet, and a standard two-inch receiver hitch rated to tow up to 1500 pounds. The particulars of the Tactical Black Viking EPS are the same as the standard EPS model: fuel-injected 686cc liquid-cooled Single, 9.7-gallon fuel capacity, On-Command 2WD, 4WD and 4WD with differential lock, Yamaha’s Ultramatic transmission and three-bucket seat passenger accommodations. It features gas-charged shocks on all four corners, Maxxis Big Horn 2.0 tires specially designed for the Viking and double wishbone suspension on the front and rear. The electric power steering system analyzes wheel torque, speed, On-Command setting and negative feedback in determining the level of assistance required. The Yamaha Tactical Black Viking EPS’s most prominent feature is the blacked-out colorway. Only the grey graphics on the dump-bed disrupt the head-to-toe color treatment. It comes with black molded sun top, overfenders, mudflaps, underseat storage box, and black cast aluminum wheels as well. The new Yamaha Tactical Black Viking EPS will be available spring 2014 and comes with a $13,749 price-tag. That’s $1250 more than the EPS version and $2250 more than the standard.
