Team Maxxis’ Chris Borich notched his 69th career GNCC win at Steele Creek, making him the winningest rider in the series’ history. DWT Racing’s Jarrod McClure did all he could to keep Borich from the top-step, but eventually finished second just three seconds behind the Suzuki rider.  RacingPowersports.com’s Adam McGill grabbed his second consecutive podium finish of the season in third.

Rain throughout the day made for a mud-slinging round in North Carolina and off the start N-Fab AmPro Yamaha’s Walker Fowler looked ready to challenge for another win. After scoring the $250 Twin Ari/DeRisi Racing Holeshot Fowler battled with McClure for the front but half-way into the race, when the riders came upon some lappers stuck in the mud, Fowler got caught and slipped outside the top-10. McClure forged ahead, battling Borich through the latter portion of the race and the two swapped the lead position a number of times before the checkers.

“I wasn’t expecting it but my big thing was to go out there and try to win this race and get a points lead,” said Borich. “I knew it was going to be a tough race, you had to pay attention out there, be smooth and watch the lines. I’m not going to lie, seeing Walker ride to the starting line first really burned me up so I wanted more than anything to get that points lead back in my possession.”

McGill struggled early on, lapping 11th after the first rotation, but clawed his way up the ranks to reach fourth on the penultimate lap. He bested BNR Motorsports’ Kevin Yoho on the final lap for third-place. Yoho, on the other hand, started strong but was hit with a start-line penalty for firing his mount too soon and was forced to sit in the pit for 30 seconds before returning to the race.
