N-Fab/AmPro Yamaha’s Walker Fowler scored his first XC1 Pro ATV win of the 2014 Grand National Cross Country Series at the 12th running of the Maxxis General GNCC. RacingPowersports.com’s Adam McGill finished in second followed by 2013 XC1 Pro ATV champion Chris Borich of Team Maxxis in third.

McGill got a jump on the field, earning the $250 Air/DeRisi Racing Holeshot but lost the front to Fowler as the Yamaha ace pushed ahead. Fowler built a gap on the field through the two-hour contest and leaves Georgia tied with Borich in the points lead.

“It feels good right now but I know how much harder I’m going to have to work these next two weeks,” said Fowler. “When Borich is beating you down you have to go to a strange place in your mind to find some strength to beat him. He’s still strong and tough but we’re going to do everything we can to make it exciting for the fans because that’s what keeps us going. If I can keep a smile on my face and win some more races I’m going to be really happy.”

McGill finished 16th in the season opener and his second-place result at The General was hard-fought as Borich applied heavy pressure to the Honda rider mid-race. Borich got held-back on the start line when his machine failed to fire, but he soon made his way through the pack and even passed McGill halfway into the competition. The Suzuki rider hit another snag when his bike stalled after jumping a creek section, costing him more time and the runner-up position.

Suzuki rider Chris Bithell finished in fourth followed by Jarrod McClure in fifth and Brian Wolfe in sixth.

Borich and Fowler are tied atop the points list at 51, each having earned a win and third-place result though two rounds. Bithell sits third followed by McClure in fourth and McGill in fifth.

Chris Borich left the 2014 Maxxis General GNCC tied for the points lead after a third place finish.

Phillips rebounded after a start which left him back in fourth place, moving into podium position by Lap 2 and 3 and eventually taking the front on the penultimate rotation. Buckhannon wavered between third and fourth-place during the initial laps as positions changed hands while Cecco rode near the back of the pack in fifth. Early leader Kevin Trantham of Can-Am dropped out the contest after three laps, however, as did Corry Savage. Michael Swift of Polaris was unable to finish as well, ending his day after Lap 4. Can-Am pilot Robert Smith ended the day in fourth.

Phillips leads the 4×4 Pro series with 48 points, while Trantham, winner of the opening round, slips to second three points adrift of the leader. Cecco sits third followed by Smith in fourth.
